My Aug 2016 trip
Namibia between 2 Aug 2016 and 14 Aug 2016
"Namibia provides good value, great accommodation, easy self drive combining safari and outdoor adventure.
Perhaps less adventurous than safaris in countries such as Botswana but the infrastructure and choice in Namibia is unsurpassed."

Anderssons Camp, Namibia (this camp has since closed)

"Simple but well designed accommodation in particular the quirky bathrooms. Very friendly, attentive and helpful service. Although we were on a self drive the lodge guides were happy to chat around the fire in the evening sharing their knowledge and thoughts. The camp waterhole and hide are a highlight of the lodge. Very easy to spend hours into the late evening watching from the hide with a glass of red. Five lion and a cub drinking feet away one night and then a Gennet cat the next was a highlight of five weeks in the bush. Great for children as the overall lodge atmosphere is quite relaxed. Great location if one does not want to be in the park."

"Wonderful location and great rooms. Best of the NWR lodges. Fantastic opportunity to travel to the west of Etosha with limited waterholes providing some of the best concentration of animals, including Rhino, although we did not see cats in this area. Great pool for cooling off even in the winter months after long drives. Like all NWR lodges food and service is not at a premium but the lodge is still highly recommended, in particular if on the route to/from Damaraland."

"Very comfortable chalets kept beautifully cool in the desert sun. Outdoor bathrooms with breathtaking views of the night sky. Great service and best food that we experienced in lodges across Namibia. Wonderful rock plunge pool."

Sossus Dune Lodge

"The rooms are very spacious and comfortable although the communal spaces are somewhat utilitarian and without atmosphere. Service and food somewhat typical of NWR lodges with little extra effort put in. The lodge is an absolute must, however, in that its location within the gate enables one to reach Sossusvlei long before the majority arrive or watch sunset on Dune 45 long after everyone has left."
