Namibia and 1 other country between 18 Jul 2007 and 10 Aug 2007
It is our feeling that the situation in Etosha will need careful monitoring. If the prices continue to rise dramatically then Hobatere might make a more cost effective alternative. The metalled road to Hobatere once complete also makes this more accessible.
We both felt that Etosha may try to price itself at luxury prices. Game drives at night in Etosha were 450 Namibian dollars, ridiculous compared to Hobatere."
Feedback response
We are monitoring the new Etosha lodges very carefully indeed; they've a lot to live up to with their new prices - though a lot has been done to them. Some sort of refurbishment had been long overdue!

Ondudu Safari Lodge
"Interesting and loads of character!"
Small waterhole with comfortable viewing platform to see birds and small mammals.
A good location within striking distance of Windhoek (2 1/2 hrs drive) for those that want to get on the road straight away en route to the north."
Mowani Mountain Camp
"Stunning location"
The desert adapted elephant tour was taken by excellent and knowledgable guides and well worth the money.
Views and sunsets to die for! We stayed there for two nights and felt that was ideal."
Hobatere Lodge
"Consistently brilliant!"
The new waterhole gave the opportunity to observe a few surprise visitors ( African wildcat).
All the bungalows are very comfortable, the food is excellent and the staff very friendly.
With the main road from Kamanjab being tarmacced hobitare is increasingly accessible."
Okaukuejo Camp
"reliable waterhole"
The signage in Etosha generally is being up graded but many of the drives are currently whited out: it woudl be easy to get lost!
The waterhole still remains a prime location with consistent and interesting game viewing.
Theer is now a 'daily parking' cost of 80 namibian dollars per person which replaces the game permit which had previously been paid at Andersson gate."
Halali Camp
"Excellent waterhole with prime game viewing"
A relatively quiet camp, we never felt crowded.
There is now a 'daily parking' cost of 80 namibian dollars per person which replaces the game permit which had previously been paid at Andersson gate. We were told that prices are being reviewed in November and would likely be rising."
Hakusembe River Lodge
"a good stopover"
Susuwe Island Lodge (Not currently featured by Expert Africa)
"exceeded expectations!!"
We felt that the game viewing was almost undersold, Beven was an extremely good guide.
This actually proved a cost effective way to see the habitat along the Kwando, and was a real contrast to other areas in Namibia.
The accomodation was very luxurious without being pretentious, the staff catered to individual need, proved very welcoming and were very genuine with us.
An unforgettable experience."

Nxamaseri Lodge
"Remote and unique location."
I would put a note of caution to travelling novices, had we not been to Africa before this could have turned into a very difficult day.
Having said that, the journey is well worth it. The location is unique, the activities varied. Although the lodge is primarily geared towards fishing, the birdwatching is very good, while night boat trips were interesting.
The atmospehere was very friendly and relaxed with good food."
Khorab Lodge (Not currently featured by Expert Africa)
"Useful stopover, and convenient location."
