"Lions Bluff
Felt like a friendly and welcoming lodge as soon as we arrived and this feeling only grew during our stay, everyone friendly and helpfull. Also very well run by Naomi at front of house who organizers whatever you would like to do very efficiently. She offered to upgrade us to Lions Bluff when she had free rooms and we accepted for a couple of nights. She also organized for us to shower there after an afternoon drive when one guest was ill and we offered not to stop at Leopards Lair so the vehicle could get back quicker. Naomi also let us design a bespoke activity; short afternoon drive with sundowner and turning into a night drive. The staff here are amongst the best we have met anywhere, and better than a lot we've encounted in top of the range camps and hotels.
I understand that food may have let it down in the past. It certainly wasn't rich, fancy or flamboyant but good solid staples like roast lamb or pork, various chicken or fish dishes. Dinner is three courses with very tasty soups and fresh baked bread.
Leopards Lair where we stayed is a tented camp about a mile from Lions Bluff. It started about 15 months ago as 7 tents but 2 have blown away. They are large safari tents with attached bathroom area with sink, shower and long drop toilet. Although a fairly new camp it has a slight air of neglect or decay and looks a bit worn. It is camping rather than 'glamping'. We throughly enjoyed our stay there and preferred it to our nights at the lodge. We were the only guests so it was beautifully quite and peaceful. With a little bit of care and tidying up it could be fabulous. And it's an absolute bargain."
