Kazungula border not a great experience but interesting. some warning about hawker, time taken , crowds of people etc would have helped. However this did prepare us for Chirundu!
Weather colder than expected - we should have had hats and gloves and warmer fleeces. No-one had said this."

Deception Valley Lodge

Jacana Camp
"Idyllic retreat at Jacana camp"
display of basketware was interesting but a bit contrived and we felt we had to buy something.
Kenny was a superb guide and tracker and very concerned that we were happy with everythng. He had a lot of respect for the animals and habitat which not everybody else had in the other camps.
More detail about the transfer time from air to the camp and the logistics would be helpful. Guides tend to underestimate the times needed and this can cause problems."

Lagoon Camp
"excellent viewing at Lagoon Camp"
Again no hair dryers ( just a small niggle). Towels could have been changed once I think and a coffe/tea facility ( like at jacana) would have been lovely as it was a bit of a walk in the sand to the food area. Especially in the morning when it was still dark.
The wild dogs are now at Lebala. THis was a big disappointment to most as this is a main reason for going to Lagoon . However, our lovely guide was from lebala and took us ( on the quiet) to see the pack with their cubs. But we didn't get to hunt with them as it was at least an hour from Lagoon. People need to know this sort of thing as it is annoying if you arrive and are disappointed.
Nelson is ok but over effusive. THe whole camp is a bit more commercial than the others but you do see a lot and the evening cruise is fantastic. some of the catering staff were a bit surly ........."

"Bushbuck river House - great place to chill"
Allann will take people to the Falls and arrange trips of all sorts.
Drinks a little pricy but everything is in Zambia."

Since there had been a lot of rain earlier the big game were not coming to the water holes. This is maybe something which visitors should know so they can change their wishlist. A lot of emphasis on chasing lions whereas we would have been happy to look for smaller mammals or spend time observing elephants.
The manager could ask us what our itinerary was and what we really hoped to do at Deception. This actually goes for all the camps. A bit more dialogue needed.
Bushman walk wonderful and such talented people. A flora and fauna walk in the Kalahari would have been good ( as we had last year in Swapokmund and in Etondeka."
