My May 2014 trip
Botswana between 24 May 2014 and 2 Jun 2014
"The trip exceeded our expectations. The choice and order of camps was strategic and well thought out.
We liked the variation of geographies and saw an extremely wide range of game - some at very close range. We felt very attended to with our special requests always taken into account.
Expert Africa did an excellent job helping us plan this trip - thanks to Megan."

"Much more varied game here than at the other camps we stayed at. Gordon, our guide was excellent - knowledgeable and with a warm personality.
Comfortable room and enjoyed the outdoor shower and abundant hot water (didn't like minimal privacy for toilet in room). Also appreciated the hot water delivered to the room in the morning.
Very accommodating staff - including camp manager Connie who made us feel very welcome and met all of our special needs requests (like separate dining for our group, special food for sundowners, etc.) Nice pool area. Game drives were wonderful and we saw all imaginable game - appreciated the hot water bottles and warm lined ponchos."

"More informal, but very warm service and accommodating staff. Our guide was very focused on tracking animals and did a good job with this, but he lacked some of the interpersonal skills that guides in the other camps exhibited.
Saw amazing animals in their natural states (fighting, eating, playing with cubs, etc.) Loved the late afternoon motorboat ride through the delta. We also enjoyed the makoro ride the last morning in camp. We appreciated the later start in the morning and the peaceful afternoons (when there was no staff to be found). We loved the rooms - basic, but very well designed with a nice big bathtub and the best outdoor shower.
Also we liked staying in the woods with various game surrounding our tent. We liked having the early morning breakfast around a fire in the boma - hot coffee, great porridge and freshly baked muffins."

There did seem to be a discrepancy between administrative staff and the (local African) staff that organized game drives, kitchen/food, etc. Some of the latter did not quite know what to make of 4 men traveling together and certainly were puzzled when they heard we were two couples - this didn't really hinder our overall experience here, but there were some awkward questions about the nature of our relationships that could have been avoided had they been told that we were gay men.
We particularly enjoyed the sunset boat ride on the lake/swamp in front of the lodge where we saw a beautiful sunset and saw elephants swimming. The staff organized a special seating/dinner and sparkling wine for Michael's birthday, which was very nice. Separate seating requests for our group were accommodated. We liked the room, but would have appreciated an outdoor shower (and more hot water). The food was inconsistent - some good and some just mediocre."
