A lot of variety from one week in Kenya
Kenya between 2 Feb 2014 and 9 Feb 2014
"Each day was busy with activities and the seven days were full and rewarding. Offbeat Meru is pretty unique and was made really special by our guide (Dominic) whose eye sight and knowledge were both excellent. We had to work to see animals in Meru national park, which is much more rewarding compared with places where sightings are guaranteed.
Chances we won't return to Offbeat, but we can imagine returning to Sandai not least because it is relaxed and easy going. There's little in the way of procedure and process and a lot to be said for meeting others of like mind. Nearby Solio is good for a satisfying safari and the Aberdares offers a contrast, especially up above 3000m.
Overall we were very happy with the week."

"Room and facilities were good. The staff were really helpful, breakfast was great and the atmosphere was an unpretentious throw back to pre-independence times"

Offbeat Meru, Kenya (this camp has since closed)
"Indulgence camping at Offbeat Meru"
3 nights
Arrived
3 Feb 2014
"A small and intimate camp sited by a stream in a reserve that in reality is an integral part of Meru - as evidenced by elephants in the camp at night, a giraffe in the day and a lion's roar at 4.00am.
The luxury and personal service are indulgent, especially given we're used to roughing it. It's a camp that might be best suited to people who have been on safari before, who can appreciate the atmosphere and individuality of the place."

Sandai
"Down to earth Sandai"
3 nights
Arrived
6 Feb 2014
"In contrast to Offbeat there were quite a few guests at Sandai, a mix of independent safari goers and people taking a break from Nairobi.
Sandai is for independent-minded self starters, not really for package people. The hospitality is warm and easy going and the meals are eaten together in Petra's dining room. Conversation was easy and the people were interesting. Prices are down to earth and there are plenty of pick and mix activity options including the Aberdares and Solio.
Petra is loveable and the staff very helpful."
