My Aug 2013 trip
Tanzania between 26 Aug 2013 and 1 Sep 2013
Your office staff is very accomodating and helpful"
Feedback response
We were obviously very, very concerned by the 'poor' rating that these travellers gave to this trip, and so we asked them to elaborate and tell us a bit more about why the trip had disappointed them. They wrote to us:
"Thanks for your response. I thought your company and Eleanor were both wonderful. We had been to Africa many times over the past 35 years and found the crass commercialization of the experience a shock this time. So many cars, continuous use of the radio, tourists with little respect for the animals. We were really disappointed."
We think that this relates to the rapid growth in the number of camps in the northern Serengeti. Aug/Sept is migration time here, and this year (2013) there have been more vehicles than ever watching for the wildebeest crossings - and cleary there were so many that they had a really negative effect on the experience for these 'old Africa hands'.
Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp

The camp are also sorry that these travellers clashed with the manager, who they assure us wouldn't intentionally lie and with whom there must have been a series of miscommunications. The laundry was not done due to poor weather and so it would not have dried in time - this reason should have been made clear and they apologise that it was not. We have been told by head operations that the truck had indeed broken down which lead to late delivery of water. In regards to the snake, we have been assured it was a non poisonous snake that was promptly removed by the staff. Tanzanian staff tend to refer to all non poisonous snakes as grass snakes and though this is technically incorrect - it isn't meant to be misleading to the guests.
The camp apologises for any miscommunications with these guests which resulted in them not enjoying their stay. They have passed the comments on to the camp in an effort to improve what they do for future guests.

"Great camp and location"
Again, the camp is great, but I would not go again."
The manager was an amateur and routinely lied to us about matters simple and complex. Laundry was not done when it was supposed to be be because the truck has broken down when this was not the case as we saw it driving by. Snakes under the mat were "garden snakes" rather than the poisonous variety in the guidebook Our guide was quite good."
