Luangwa River Camp
"Such comfort at Luangwa river camp"

"A big surprise to find ourselves arriving by driving across the river with the crocs and hippos in evidence as the water lapped the top of the wheels!
Polly is the hostess with the mostess and she and all the staff went out of their way to make everything perfect for us and the camp is so comfortable. Both my grandchildren had birthdays while we were there and she produced wonderful boxed "bush" birthday presents in the shape of a sausage from the tree for the 12 year old and a box of dried elephant dung for the 15 year old!! - they were highly amused. Also they each received a delicious iced cake complete with candles - such a treat.
Sebastian was ever patient and an easy, humourous guide, ever answering questions which must be tiring! We also had a good day visit to the Kawaza school and lunch at the village, and appreciated our dinner even more than usual!"

Taj Pamodzi Hotel, Zambia (this camp has since closed)
"Taj Pamodzi hotel - one night"

"We booked 3 twin rooms and were give 2 twin and a double which was changed, and we had to wait about half an hour which was irritating.
We asked at the reception desk for early wake up calls but no-one got one. Perhaps iit was our fault as we could have done it from the room.
good breakfast"

This time we took the family with the youngest aged 12. Bradston was our guide and he and the game didn't disappoint. He was very patient and joined in the enthusiasm of the children, particularly when we were on a walk and 2 lions appeared on the plain! After our first night drive we arrived back to find elephants blocking the way to our rooms which added to the excitement! We had a sunrise bush breakfast at the salt pans giving everyone different scenery and a new experience. With the river so low we were able to cross to be transferred to our next camp.
My only slightly negative comment is that for older people it would be nice to have a stool in the room. The only place to sit, once the mosquito nets are drawn, is on the steps leading into the bathroom. However I admit that there is very little room except in the bathroom itself.
Our briefing was poor and we ere not informed that there twas a hide near the bar, but there was a temporary man in charge at the time."
