Mary's Birthday safari
Zambia between 11 Sep 2013 and 21 Sep 2013
"I booked this trip as a Birthday treat for my partner. I wanted it to be spectactular, exciting, interesting, and memorable. It was all of those things and more.
Claire Scott listened to my wishlist and produced an itinerary which allowed us to see more than we thought possible in the limited time we had available.
One of the reasons I chose Expert Africa was I wanted someone else to do the organising this time, so as not to have to worry about connections bookings etc. Well, it certainly was properly organised. We even had someone meet us BEFORE passport control in Lusaka who organised our visas for us, and we didn't have a raise a finger on our own behalf for the whole trip.
Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:
Not really, but thanks to Claire for not laughing when I told her how much I expected to pay for the trip! ;)"

"Located on the high bank of the Luangwa, with our open sided grass hut built around a living tree.
Elephants and hippos who wandered in and out of the camp. Walking safaris which begin with a canoe crossing of the river. Evening game drives had sunsets along the banks of the river amongst large flocks of Red-billed Quelea.
On our first night drive here we witnessed a face-off between two Leopards and a Hyena over the remains of an old kill. On one morning walking trip our guide (the long suffering [we did ask lots of questions!] but always courteous Brent Harris), along with scout Levy and tea-bearer Justin found the recent tracks of a Lion. We (they!) tracked her for two hours to a successful sighting along with two males. An amazing Birthday present for Mary, which the camp staff continued when she was treated to an african chorus of Happy Birthday and a specially decorated cake. I hadn't even mentioned this to anyone, which illustrates the care they take of their guests at Tafika."

Chikoko Tree Camp
"Crocodile - Chikoko walking tour"
1 night
Arrived
18 Sep 2013
"This was part of a circular tour we did from Tafika via Crocodile, Chikoko and back to Tafika. Our Guides were Brent and Mukupa with scout Levy.
This camp has two storey huts which provide good views over the grasslands in front of the camp. The comfort and cuisine here match the other Remote Africa Safari camps, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
We had good sightings of mixed groups of animals here, which made for great photos in the soft evening light."

"This was part of a circular tour we did from Tafika via Crocodile, Chikoko and back to Tafika. Our Guides were Brent and Mukupa with scout Levy.
Crocodile is a tiny camp, with ground level grass huts open at the front overlooking the waterhole. This is pumped so guarantees sightings from the camp. We saw Impala, Bushbuck, and Buffalo at the water. We also witnessed a (very nearly) sucessful Lion hunt right in front of our hut in the early morning before breakfast. The area round this camp was good for spotting Raptors and Vultures.
As with the other Remote Safari camps the staff took superb care of us."

Pioneer Camp
"Last night in Zambia before flight home"
1 night
Arrived
20 Sep 2013
"We used this camp as a stopover before flying home, so can't give a conclusive review. It was fine for our purposes, their driver picked us up from the airport and took us straight to the camp. As we checked in we ordered for dinner (spaghetti bolognaise!) and after dinner one of the reception team checked us in for our flights (including our onward flight from Heathrow) and booked our seats.
So all in all. A nice camp with excellent helpful staff ideal for the purpose we used it for."

High points were the views from the lodge, this is better than it looks in the photos. Also the evening drives, which cross the Luangwa either by pontoon, or in our case by driving through the river!
We saw Leopard on our first evening, Lions on a kill (and the arrival of the Vultures), a sleeping Elephant and spectacular sunsets from highground.
The staff and Guides were friendly and helpful. Of especial note were Keith the Operations Manager (get him talking about his early days of conservation work) and Josephat for his knowledge, patience and sense of humour."
