Namibia, July 2015
Namibia between 19 Jul 2015 and 4 Aug 2015
Namibia is a varied and unspoilt country and being there was a privilege. Etosha totally lived up to it's billing as one of the best wildlife locations in Africa, we saw rhino repeatedly as well as lion, leopard and black faced impala.
The desert landscapes are remarkable and walking barefoot across the salt at Dead Vlei was a unique experience, as was climbing Dune 45. The wildlife (birds and mammals), the welcoming people, stunning landscape and starry southern skies will all live in our memories, we love still finding desert sand in our trainers."

Elegant Guesthouse
"Great start to holiday at Elegant"

BullsPort Lodge and Farm
"Bullsport Farm"
Completing our own walks on the property with maps provided was also a real chance to get out into the landscape.
It was cold, even colder than expected and later locations put hot water bottles in the beds- this would have been a good addition here."

Kulala Desert Lodge
"Excellent Desert Location"
We had the connected family rooms which were spacious with a huge veranda and the ability to climb on the roof to look at the stars. It is a little drive to Sesriem and has a long and rocky drive (7km) this was not a problem for us - we felt out of the way here, away from the bustle of Sesriem and we saw Bat Eared Foxes on the drive in.
Staff were excellent - they got us up early for hot air ballooning (which was a superb experience) the quality of the food and dining experience was high.
A real desert atmosphere."

Cornerstone Guesthouse
"Well Looked after at Cornerstone"
Cornerstone had massive rooms, a lovely garden to sit in and served us a good breakfast.
It is a five minute walk to the sea front with the The Tug restaurant and less than this to the marvellous Kucki's Pub.
Pelican Point kayaking
Excellent - Brilliant wildlife experience
This was a superb trip.
Jeanne took us out to Pelican Point early and gave a great guided tour on route: of the wildlife, salt works etc. Paddling out to the seal colony was brilliant, the sea was alive with inquisitive pups and we spent over an hour playing with them.
Jeanne took photos+video which were emailed to us before we got back to the hotel and provided us with equipment, waterproof clothes and lunch."

Kayaking with seals

Doro Nawas
"The top hotel of the trip- Doro Nawas"
Our connected family accommodation, semi-detached huts was characterful and spacious. We ate dinner on the roof of the central building, lit by candle lanterns and under a starry star with the Southern Cross above. We visited Twyfelfontein from here which was a great experience.
Doro !Nawas is run very professionally but also in conjunction with the local community and there is a real sense of pride in this establishment. We went to sleep listening to the wonderful barking geckos."

Okaukuejo Camp
"Perfect View"
All rooms are not equal, not even in the Waterhole Chalets - we had a Premier Waterhole Chalet and this made all the difference. Our balcony directly overlooked the waterhole and we sat under blankets on a cushioned lounger long into the night watching the animals. These are by far the best rooms and the balcony made up for any shortcomings with the food or atmosphere.
When the sun had set patience brought us numerous black rhinos, elephants, lions, oryx, wildebeest, zebra etc. It was truly amazing. Okuakuejo had more shortcomings as a hotel than anywhere else we stayed and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. We were genuinely sad to leave our chalet and the memory of our afternoons and evenings watching the animals will last a lifetime."

Mushara Bush Camp
"Magnificent Mushara"
The dining experience was restaurant quality with delicious food brilliantly presented under a giant thatched roof. Staff were attentive and mealtimes were a pleasure.
Mushara is very close to Etosha's Von Lindequist Gate and we spent our day in the park. We saw Damara Dik-Dik from our veranda and the camp feels very much in the wild"

Ondudu Safari Lodge
"Magical Erongo"
We independently walked over a kopje in the afternoon climbing high above the camp for amazing views of the landscape of pink granite. Dinner in the wooden dining room was served with care and prepared with skill.
We were up early for the drive to Windhoek and staff prepared a breakfast pack for us to eat on the way."
Although Windhoek is not hard to drive in Elegant is on the edge nearest the airport and this makes navigation easy. Rooms were a good size with comfy beds. Short 5 min walk to Joes Beer House as well - great place to eat zebra and drink good beer."
