A great adventure
Botswana and 2 other countries between 10 Apr 2011 and 18 Apr 2011
"This was a fairly last minute trip that I decided upon between leaving one job and starting the next and was designed to draw a line under the former and refresh me in preparation for the latter. It worked a treat.
The arrangements through Expert Africa were simple despite a change of schedule due to availability, communications were easy - mostly email with the occasional phone call, and everything went to plan whilst I was there, with all transfers working perfectly.
I normally plan and book my own holidays directly but as this was my first time in Africa, I wanted some local knowledge and expertise, and Expert Africa provided this to make it all painless. I don't hesitate to recommend them."

Zambezi Queen
"Zambezi Queen - absolutely 5 star"
2 nights
Arrived
13 Apr 2011
"The Zambezi Queen is fantastic:
- superb location moored in the middle of the Chobe river - I lay on my bed watching elephants on the bank of the river, and at night I went to sleep listening to the hippos on the bank nearby
- service is first rate, from the welcome song as I boarded, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It truly fely as if I couldn't have been looked after any better
- food is excellent, breakfast and dinner on board were very good, and included afternoon tea, but the highlight was the dinner on land on the last night. A sort boat ride to the bank where our tables had been arranged under the stars, lit by lanterns, and served a local boma, with food, dancing and music - quite magical.
- activities - game drive, boat rides along the bank (saw that big croc I was looking for!), and more fishing
- star gazing from the top deck was excellent because it is moored away from any lights.
Overall highly recommended, I loved this"

Ilala Lodge
"Ilala Lodge - relaxing"
3 nights
Arrived
15 Apr 2011
"By the time I reached Victoria Falls I was ready to relax and this hotel was the perfect place to do it.
Nice room, excellent restaurant (sit on the tearrce and listen to the falls in the distance), and relaxing grounds in which to sit. Good location for walking to the falls (10 minutes max) and for wondering into town, and an on-site agent for booking activities - I walked with lions which was amazing, if a teeny bit scary, and flew over the falls in a helicopter which gave impressive views (and great photos) of the falls and river, which I needed as the spray was so dense I had limited views from the ground when I walked by the falls (although the experience of being close to all that water was still impressive).
The lodge also had wifi ($5) which was useful to catch up and even to skype home."

The one to one attention was particularly good, whether on a great fishing trip for tiger fish (caught two but missed several more, had a hoot motoring down stream and weaving in between the flooded trees to find the best spots), or the individual boat hire that resulted in some excellent game spotting along the river front, with lots of background info explained by the knowledgeable guide, to the walk through the Namibian village and explanations of village life and culture.
As a solo traveller these trips were very good, and were arranged to suit my schedule. The two other activities were the early morning game drive and sunset boat cruise, which gave opportunities to meet and socialise with other travellers, as well as see lots more game.
In terms of accommodation, I had a very large, comfortable, air conditioned room with a terrace looking out over the river and the food buffet at both breakfast and dinner was excellent, with a vast range of dishes that differed each night and featured local produce - it did feel a little strange photographing the impala and Koodoo during the day, then eating them at night, but it all added to the experience!
The staff were also very helpful in finding my luggage which had failed to make my connection at Johannesberg and arrived two days late.
Overall a great introduction to Chobe and Botswana"
